1 JUNE 2025
SUNDAY, 3:00PM
"Tokyo Symphony Orchestra: A Symphony of Legends"
The prestigious Tokyo Symphony Orchestra makes its long-awaited debut in Malaysia with a grand afternoon concert at the iconic Dewan Filharmonik Petronas. Under the baton of Naoto Otomo, who has led the highly competitive music scene of Japan, the orchestra’s 80 musicians will deliver an unforgettable performance filled with power, passion, and world-class artistry.
A highlight of the afternoon is Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, featuring acclaimed Japanese pianist Tomoharu Ushida, whose expressive playing and refined technique bring this Romantic masterpiece vividly to life.
Following that, the orchestra brings to life Mussorgsky’s iconic Pictures at an Exhibition, in the vivid orchestration by Maurice Ravel. Inspired by a series of artworks, this imaginative suite takes the audience on a musical journey through sound and scene—from the quirky energy of “The Gnome” to the majestic grandeur of “The Great Gate of Kiev.”
This prestigious event marks a new chapter in cultural collaboration between Japan and Malaysia—an inspiring showcase of orchestral excellence and international friendship.
Join us for an inspiring matinee of world-class music, brought to life by one of Asia’s leading orchestras in their historic first appearance on Malaysian soil.
This performance is supported by Japan Arts Council as part of the TOKYO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA’s Asia Project.
